Unified Intelligence · California

Know which absences you can still turn back into ADA.

California created Attendance Recovery so districts can make up to 10 absences per student count toward ADA each year. Ask Unified Intelligence who can recover days, what it could bring in, and what it will take to staff, using a secure, read-only replica of your SIS data, with a full report typically within about five minutes.

The opening

The LAO reported minimal Attendance Recovery ADA as of May 2026.

The stakes

Attendance drives LCFF. At 62% UPP, the 2026–27 grades 9–12 rate is $15,550 per ADA.

The catch

Programs are voluntary, staffed by your certificated employees, and audited.

Certificated hours

{{hours}}

How it’s calculated: students × days ÷ instructional days × total per ADA. Total per ADA = adjusted base + supplemental (base × 20% × UPP) + concentration (base × 65% × UPP above 55%). CDE divides by the days in the attendance period being reported, so a P-2 view uses fewer days and shows a higher value. Hours assume grades 1–12: 4 participation hours per day of attendance at the 20:1 limit, with full classes. The estimate doesn’t reflect funded ADA protections such as the three-year average, which can change what is realized. Absences must exist, and suspensions and immunization exclusions can’t be recovered. Most LCFF funding uses P-2, so absences after P-2 don’t add to most LCFF funding. Your finance office validates.

Why an isolated intelligence layer

Not a direct AI connection to your SIS.

The most common approach routes natural-language questions directly into a third-party large language model, alongside live student data. That creates two problems.

Accuracy

Large language models are unreliable at precise math. A question like “what happens to my funding if attendance rises 4% year over year” risks a hallucinated or subtly incorrect answer, with no straightforward way for staff to verify it.

Security

Routing student data, including identifiable information, into a third-party model raises real questions under FERPA and does not sit comfortably alongside a SOC 2 posture.

Isolated by design

Every step stays inside a dedicated environment built for your district. Nothing is processed inside a third-party AI model, and every numeric answer is computed, not guessed.

Read-only replica

No outside AI tool ever connects to your SIS directly, and nothing is shared across districts or with third parties.

Verified computation

The engine writes and executes the code behind each answer. Python handles the math; the language model handles the conversation.

Full reports on demand

A complete report or dashboard view, typically within about five minutes of the question.

Your SIS stays the record

The replica covers student records, attendance, enrollment, course schedules, graduation progress, GPA and credits, and role-based permissions. You choose any added inputs, such as LCAP actions or Attendance Recovery rosters.
